In the 2016 Presidential race there has been many situations, discussions, outbursts, and debates that has been noticed worldwide for its controversy. One of the candidates has gotten a lot of attention around the world for his tweets, his views and his opinions. Donald J Trump has not at all been what one could call a “traditional” Presidential candidate. However, his strategy has apparently worked, because as of November 8th, 2016 he is the official President-Elect, and will enter into Office in January of 2017.

One of the many controversial views he has portrayed during his year long campaign is his view of Muslims, and more specifically his dislike of the Syrian refugees that are seeking refuge in the US. Many times he has taken to twitter to tell the world exactly what he thinks of Islam, and why he believes the refugees are a threat to the American society, and even, to the American “way of life”. In this website we want to explore how his views affect society, and peoples attitudes towards Muslims. To be able to do that we will look at his outbursts and opinions through the theoretical lens of Emile Durkheim, Peter Berger and Islamophobia. Does the way he uses his power and authority have an affect upon the public opinion about Muslims and the refugees? Can people be affected in a way that changes their view completely, and in a way that turns them against their own neighbors? Click on the pictures to find out more!
