Islam, a feared concept in the West

Islam is on the map in a lot of Western countries today, one of them is Norway. Recently, an historical trial took place, because a hairdresser refused a woman wearing a hijab, service in her hair salon. This is the first trial in Norway based on discrimination over religious clothing, and it drew much media attention both national and international. It is an important conflict that shed light on what is happening in the society, where a lot of tensions between Islam and the Western world exist. The role of Islam has created debates, generalizations of Muslims, discussion of religious clothing, and most of all fear. Islamophobia is a real, people are afraid, and I ask the question why?
On this website, I will look at the discrimination case against the woman of Muslim faith, but also look at the bigger picture of Norway as a society. Are you an Islamist or a terrorist because you wear a hijab? Why are people so afraid? And what does this fear do to a society where mistrust and prejudices among ethnical Norwegians and Muslims already exist?
Since this is a case that happened in Norway, a lot of my sources are in Norwegian, I have therefore translated the the sources from Norwegian to English, myself.
